Theoretical and Practical Curriculum Planning
The Department of Industrial Science is the only department under the College of Electricity and Information Technology (CIET) in the country. The department is oriented to cultivate high-tech engineering and management talents in the electrical and information industry, and to cultivate talents with “problem solving”, “system integration ability” and “innovation ability”, and emphasizes the cultivation of comprehensive knowledge fields such as electronic engineering, information technology, engineering and technology management, and intelligent manufacturing, in order to enter into the era of Industry 4.0, big data, artificial intelligence, Internet of Things, and sustainable development. and sustainable development, etc.
In response to the development of the industry, the department will specialize in the training of semiconductor integrated circuit (IC) packaging talents from 2021 onwards, and offer the courses of “Semiconductor Packaging and System Level Package Substrate Design” and “Semiconductor Packaging Manufacturing Management”, which is the only industrial engineering department in Taiwan that offers IC package design. Students will be trained to use the Cadence software required for IC package design, and will be able to familiarize themselves with APD & SIP and independently complete an IC package design. SIP and independently complete the design of an IC package, in order to understand the research and future development trends in packaging-related fields, so as to meet the needs of the industry and enhance the competitiveness of employment.
The Solver Knight Program is the department’s first all-English special training program that combines the professional fields of the department’s teachers with small classes, intensive discussions, and hands-on teaching methods in order to broaden students’ perspectives on global issues, industry chains, and the application of professional software. The program offers a variety of courses, including case studies on existing business models and future prospects; mathematical modeling for analyzing problems in the context of production control and operations research; professional software training in the context of system simulation; and the development of applications for robotic phones. Students participating in the program can receive more diversified training to further cultivate students’ foreign language skills, information integration skills, self-learning and cooperation skills, problem-solving and analytical skills, etc., so as to add value to what they have learned, strengthen their learning, and reduce the gap between learning and use, in order to cultivate international talents for solving cross-cutting problems and to meet the needs of professional talents in the industry.
Program Planning
- In addition to the basic training of industrial engineers in relevant scientific theories and quantitative methods, the department emphasizes on practical training, and includes internship courses in relevant compulsory subjects such as production management, quality management, work study, facility planning, etc. From the second year onwards, each semester is organized with company visits.
- Starting from the second year, the department arranges company visits every semester, and before graduation, students are required to visit companies at least six times. In the summer of the third year, students are required to go to the enterprise for six to eight weeks and propose improvement plans. The place of internship is not limited to Taiwan, and students can also choose to go overseas for internship. We hope that this program will enhance the learning effect of the students and allow them to plan for their future as soon as possible. In the fourth year of college, there is an internship report course to train students to write reports and present them on stage.
- In the fourth year, we invite graduating seniors and business executives to share their career and workplace experiences in weekly practical lectures, which are very informative and provide students with a good opportunity to learn from their predecessors and encourage them for the future.
- We have planned the Electronic Integrated Manufacturing Program, the Quality Management Program, the Global Operations Management Program, the Industrial Safety Management Program, and the Artificial Intelligence System Application Program for students to specialize in and enhance their competitiveness in their future careers.
Project Competition
Quality Control Competition
The Quality Control Competition is a group competition in the junior year of the required Quality Control course in which each group finds a topic and explores improvement options; finds problem areas where this topic occurs, understands why these problems do not occur, determines the level of impact of these problems, and discusses solutions to problems that have a higher level of impact.
Facility Planning Competition
The Facility Planning Competition will be held in the second semester of the third year of college, and will be conducted in groups. Each group must find a factory as the theme, understand the factory and its main products, and plan a suitable solution for the factory in terms of the production line and the area planning within the factory, in order to minimize the distance of the transportation of the production line and to increase the efficiency of the production.
Production Control Competition
Production control contest is the theme of each team, and the use of production control techniques: TPS, 5S and other techniques to improve the problem, not only the production of factory products, but also the life of the problem can be improved using the methods of production control.
Human Factors Engineering Competition
The Human Factors Engineering Competition is a competition in which each group finds its own theme and solves problems in factories or in daily life from the perspective of human factors engineering. For example, a paper cutter in a printing factory must use both hands to press the button before cutting in order to prevent people from being cut by the machine, and in daily life, such as how a chair should be designed in order for people to be comfortable and healthy.
Educational Software and Hardware
The department has dedicated computer classrooms, smart classrooms (for innovative teaching courses such as flipped teaching and PBL), smart manufacturing practice areas, perceptual creativity human factors engineering laboratories, circuit electronics laboratories, creative product automation and integration laboratories, green engineering and management teaching laboratories, randomized system teaching and development laboratories, network laboratories, and a number of e-classrooms, which contain a variety of software and hardware for teaching and research, and thus cultivate the practical abilities of students.
International Exchange and Dual Degree
The department has an international master’s program, taught in English, and currently enrolls foreign students, including students from Japan, Indonesia, the United States, Vietnam, Pakistan, and the Philippines, to fully promote a new style of research. We have many academic and research collaborations with international universities, as well as various student exchange and dual degree programs.
- In recent years, students from the university department have gone to Bradley University, Korea Foreign Studies University, University of Applied Sciences in Deggendorf, University of Bayreuth, University of Chongqing, and MAPUA in the Philippines for exchange programs.
- Every year, some of our master’s students participate in the 1+1 degree programs at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Wright State University in the U.S. and MAPUA in the Philippines.
- Organized online international seminars with Atma Jaya, Universitas Kristen Maranatha, and De La Salle University in Indonesia, and planned internships and exchanges with Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU) in the Philippines. Planning a 3 (Bachelor’s Degree) + 1 (Master’s Degree) + 1 (Master’s Degree) program with Atma Jaya University, Indonesia.
